Wendy van Zyl began her journey as a professional ballet dancer with NAPAC, performing extensively both locally and abroad. In 1991, she was awarded the SAA Young Artist of the Year. She earned her Solo Seal from the Royal Academy of Dancing in London and went on to represent South Africa at the prestigious international Adeline Genée Competition.
In 1994, Wendy joined the distinguished cast of showgirls at the Lido in Paris, where she appeared in the inaugural production of Cést Magique. One of her standout highlights was performing with her ballet students in front of the President of Botswana, His Excellency, Dr. Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi.
Her passion for movement and creativity later led her into the fashion and beauty industry, where she worked with Bvlgari on board the Silversea Cruise line. She went on to choreograph and direct concerts at primary school level, while also teaching dance, drama and art. With a diploma from the Art Institute, Wendy collaborated with the Space for Art Foundation where her students’ work was exhibited at COP 26 in Glasgow. She has since explored large-scale mural painting and is currently studying to become a yoga teacher, with a strong focus on health, education, and wellbeing.
At the heart of Wendy’s journey is her family. She has been happily married to her husband, Paul, for 15 years, and together they are the proud parents of two teenage boys, Sebastian and Malcolm, who continue to be her greatest source of inspiration and joy.
As a Mrs. South Africa 2025 top 5 finalist, Wendy sees this platform as an opportunity to inspire others to embrace education, wellness, and the pursuit of purpose with passion and confidence—values she strives to live out both in her work and at home with her family.
